Work Experience helps students to develop key skills which employers say young people need in the workplace. These skills include:

  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Social skills
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Working with others

Learning and developing these skills builds confidence so that students can move on to the next challenge in school, university, work and life.

A work experience placement can also give students an opportunity to:

  • Find out more about an industry or sector
  • Meet new people
  • Experience life as an employee
  • Build upon existing skills and learn new skills
  • Meet course requirements
  • Use on CVs, applications and references

Friday 10th December 2021 - Year 12 Work Experience Programme

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of our Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance programme we are introducing an exciting opportunity for our Year 12 students to participate in work experience. The Year 12 work experience week is scheduled to take place from Monday 11th to Friday 15th July 2022.

The main aims of the work experience programme are to give students a first-hand insight into the world of work, to enhance their own personal and social development, to increase their careers awareness and improve employability skills. There are a number of options available regarding trying to find a suitable placement. Foremost, we would encourage students to find their own work experience placements, especially if they have an interest in a particular occupation or business sector. Employers will expect students to have an interest in the field of work and often favour those who approach them directly. Please be aware that there are a number of schools in the local area undertaking work experience around this time and therefore places can often be taken up very early. A lot of business sectors are also in demand and therefore competition for places can be fierce. It is important, therefore, to start applying as soon as possible.

A further option when looking for a placement will be to use our partner’s extensive database of employers. We are working alongside Mploy and students who are not able to find a self-placement will be allocated a placement from their vast database of locations.

I can confirm that we have launched the programme with our students this week and I would like to invite you to attend our Year 12 Work Experience information Evening on Thursday, 13th January 2022 which will provide students and parents with the opportunity to learn more about the Work Experience programme and ask any questions.

In order to ensure that we are able to run a safe evening, the school has created an online booking system that will allow you to reserve a slot during one of the following sessions:

–          Session1: 5pm- 5:45pm

–          Session 2:  5.45pm- 6.30pm

–          Session 3: 6.30pm- 7:15pm

Reservations can be made from today up until 3:30pm on Thursday, 13th January and you will be able to choose which session you would like to attend.

Please be aware that in order to adhere to our COVID safety measures, there are a maximum of 75 slots available per session.  I can confirm that within each slot you will be allocated x1 student ticket and x1 parent/carer ticket to attend the evening.

Prior to the evening:

If you do not have access to the internet or need any further assistance, please contact Mrs Pink on 0151 631 4401 and she will be able to book your preferred slot.

Many thanks,
