Celebrating Excellent Results in A Levels, BTECs and Vocational Qualifications
Students and staff at Weatherhead High School are celebrating excellent results in A Levels, BTECs and other vocational qualifications. Outcomes have improved across the board with a quarter of all A Level entries awarded A*/A and 50% graded A*-B. This included one student who attained full marks in A Level Art and twins who secured eight A*/A grades between them! In total, an impressive 13 students achieved A*/A grades in all of their chosen subjects. Results in BTEC and other vocational courses were equally pleasing with a formidable 75% of all BTEC entries graded at Distinction* or Distinction and every student enrolled on the Level 3 Child Care course successfully completing the intensive two-year programme.
These results will allow students to access a broad and exciting range of post-18 pathways. Many students have opted for university and will disperse across the length and breadth of the country to commence their undergraduate studies. This includes 36 students who have secured places at Russell Group universities, including several who are off to study Medicine and Dentistry. Our future is in safe hands with students opting to pursue courses in a range of exciting and important subjects, from Architecture to Zoology. A definite theme emerging is the high proportion of students who have opted for courses in the caring sector, including Physiotherapy, Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Science.
The success of our students is testament to their talent and determination to succeed. They were also fortunate to be taught by enthusiastic and committed teachers who supported them during their journey through Weatherhead. Their success has been a genuine team effort and goes way beyond academic achievement – during their time in Sixth Form the cohort of over 150 students displayed kindness, charity and desire to enrich their school experience. They made a fantastic contribution to the life of the school and will be missed, although they leave with the best wishes from everyone at Weatherhead.
Mr Mackenzie, Headteacher, commented:
‘These results are pleasing but come as no surprise. It was evident from the commitment shown during the last 12 months that this group of students would achieve the success they have. I have really enjoyed getting to know them and spending time with them during my first year as Headteacher, and I wish them every success for a bright and prosperous future, whichever path they choose to follow.’
Mrs Rogers, Chair of Governors, said:
‘As we raise a glass to celebrate the class of 2024, I would like to congratulate everyone who has contributed to their achievements. Students, parents, teachers and all the other adults who have supported them along the way should feel very proud of their accomplishments. I certainly do!’
