Christopher Salmon Poetry Awards Celebration
On Friday 12th July, Phoebe (Year 12) and Lucy (Year 8) received their awards for the Christopher Salmon Poetry Competition. This year was a closely fought battle with over 300 entries. Lucy was Highly Commended in the KS3 age group and Phoebe was the winner in the Under 19 category.
The awards, held at Birkenhead library, were presented by Sue Higginson, Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside and the ceremony was attended by Mr and Mrs Salmon, parents of Christopher, in whose name and memory the annual competition is held. It was a privilege to witness the incredible talent of Wirral’s young poets and to hear Mr Salmon read one of Christopher’s poems.
Miss Ashcroft and Mrs Benazzouz were proud to represent Weatherhead High School and to hear Phoebe and Lucy’s poems read out in front of an audience of parents, library staff and students. Well done to all entrants and winners!
