Students of the Month
We are delighted that four of our students were recognised for their work during lockdown as part of the World Class Schools Virtual Awards Ceremony on 18th March 2021. The event was held in recognition of the achievements of students throughout the UK during a year of lockdown.
Freya, in Year 9, was nominated for Student of the Month by History teachers, Mr Clark and Miss Clarkson, for completing a Virtual History Club task. Freya dedicated a lot of time and effort researching Hallie Rubenhold’s book on Jack the Ripper’s victims and wrote a detailed and sophisticated piece of work. Freya demonstrated what a World Class Learner she is by exercising curiosity, working independently and creatively. Freya’s letter was tweeted by the History department and author Hallie replied. At the awards ceremony, Freya was awarded a commendation for January’s Student of the Month.
Please send my thanks and deep gratitude to these students who have made my day. I'm so pleased to have inspired them and altered their perceptions about the Ripper legend.

Erin, in Year 11, was nominated for Student of the Month by Art teacher, Mrs Taylor for demonstrating her Commitment to Achievement. Erin is an outstanding GCSE Art student who has worked hard throughout lockdown. She continually strives to improve, completing stretch and challenge tasks alongside classwork to a very high standard, entering the school’s ‘Artist of the Month’ competitions and creating a sculptural bodice at home, which came with its challenges and she found ways to overcome these and excel. At the awards ceremony, Erin was awarded a commendation for February’s Student of the Month.
Jess, in Year 9, was nominated for Student of the Month by Drama teacher Miss Elliott for her set design. Jess demonstrated that she is a World Class Learner by how she responded to the assignment to ‘create her own play’. Jess came up with an idea and plot for her production and went above and beyond by creating her own set complete with lighting! The quality of her work showed a deeper level of understanding of the importance of good set design and its impact. At the awards ceremony, Jess was awarded a commendation for February’s Student of the Month.
Megan, in Year 12, was commended at the Virtual Awards Ceremony for her competition entry into the ‘creativity takes on Covid’ holiday competition. Students were invited to submit creative pieces entitled ‘lockdown’ to convey their individual and/or group responses to the title, in the format of their choice.
