Weatherhead Sixth Form Students Celebrate All Their Hard Work With Excellent Results!

13 August 2020 | School News

Weatherhead High School students celebrate outstanding results in all Sixth Form qualifications despite not being able to sit their exams due to Covid-19 with 68% receiving the highest possible grades A*-B at A Level, Distinction*- Distinction at BTEC  and A*-B at DCE; all students should be extremely proud of their achievements and the maturity and resilience they have shown in these circumstances.

These results reflect all the hard work and commitment over the last 2 years and across all A Level examinations this year, students secured an excellent 100% pass rate, 59.5%  A*-B grades and 86.5% A*-C grades.

In the BTEC qualifications 86% of all grades awarded were at the highest level of Distinction/Distinction* and 75% of students achieved A*-A grades in the Diploma in Childcare and Education course.

91 students have secured places at University and many of these places are at leading Russell Group institutions, and other students are embarking on Higher Level Apprenticeships.

One student, Ben Richards achieved 3 A*grades and will be starting a mathematics degree at Cambridge University whilst twins Jane and Hannah Conley are continuing their studies at the University of Manchester to study Pharmacy and Edge Hill University to study Sports Therapy.

We are also very proud of our Young Carer and Children Looked After Ambassador Mel Ceran who has secured a place at Sheffield Hallam to study Criminology and Sociology and talented artist Leah Davies who will be joining the prestigious University of the Arts London to study Fine Art. Callum Adlard has also now successfully secured a top level apprenticeship at Airbus after a rigorous assessment procedure.

Headteacher, Annmarie Whelan, commented “These results are a true reflection of all the dedication and hard work that all the students have put into their studies over the last 2 years. They have all worked incredibly hard from day one of their courses and fully deserve these exceptional results and  I could not be prouder of them all and they should also be congratulated on the immense resilience they have shown over the last 6 months in these unprecedented circumstances.

The tremendous commitment and dedication from the teaching staff, the diligence and care of our support staff and our excellent partnership with parents and carers must also be recognised and I am so proud of how we have worked so hard together as a school community to ensure all our students achieved their best.

We are a fully inclusive Sixth Form and to achieve these wonderful results year on year is really incredible and just shows how phenomenally hard our students and staff have worked over the last few years. Students have shown true grit and determination throughout their Sixth Form studies and really deserve the success they have achieved today and these results will open many doors for them.”

Mrs Carol  Rogers, Chair of Governors would like to congratulate all students and thank staff for their hard work and professionalism in maintaining such high standards during these unprecedented times.

Congratulations and best wishes to all our students for the future.
