Friends Win European Bake Off

A ‘Friends’ themed cake was awarded 1st prize in the Modern Foreign Languages cake baking competition, as part of the school’s celebrations for ‘European Day of Languages’.

Rising to the challenge with their prize-winning bake, the Year 11 friends created a beautiful ‘Friends’ themed cake.

Travelling into 2nd place was a Year 9 entry, a pink suitcase, hand decorated with two iconic European buildings, the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben.

Two Year 7 students said “ciao” to 3rd place with their iced cake, hand decorated with “hello” in European languages.

In total, 29 cakes were entered into the competition organised by Weatherhead’s Modern Foreign Languages team. This year’s judges were Headteacher, Miss Whelan, Deputy Headteacher, Miss Sullivan and Assistant Headteacher and teacher of Modern Foreign Languages, Mr Cummins.

The standard of entries was so high that special mentions were awarded to three entries from Years 7 and 8, a towering white sponge cake decorated with European flags, a Spanish themed cake with two spotted tiers topped off with flamenco dancers, and a Spaghetti and Meatballs illusion cake.

The bake off was part of a week of events to celebrate the ‘European Day of Languages’ on Wednesday 26th September and included karaoke, a foreign film and a form time quiz.

Well done to all the students who participated!
