We Are The Champions!
Weatherhead has been awarded NCS ‘Champion School Status’ for the third year running.
‘Champion School Status’ is awarded to schools with 45 students or more graduating from the National Citizenship Service programme. This year Weatherhead exceeded the threshold with over 100 students taking part.
The 2-4 week voluntary programme is geared towards young people aged 15 to 17 years and is designed to advance personal and social development in three phases:
Phase 1: Adventure
A residential trip completing outdoor adventurous activities.
Phase 2: Skills
Students reconnect with their team in a university-style environment to develop life skills such as confidence and leadership.
Phase 3 Social Action
With their group, students deliver their very own social action project, taking full responsibility to plan activities, fundraise and make a difference to a local cause.
NCS is a chance for 15 to 17 year olds to come together and achieve amazing things for themselves and the local community, the benefits include:
- UCAS recommends students include NCS in their personal statement
- Students learn the skills employers value
- Learning to budget and live independently
- Meet new people and develop new friendships
