Seasons Greetings
It was season’s greetings throughout November and December at Weatherhead with a packed diary of Christmas events and celebrations.
Our dedicated Parents, Teachers and Friends at Weatherhead organised a fantastic Christmas Craft Fair in mid-November as part of their fundraising activities for the school. There were lots of beautiful craft stalls, raffles and refreshments and music performances from our Chamber Choir. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.
Our festive season officially opened in December with Weatherhead’s Winter Warmer concert. Our annual Christmas concert is a beautiful evening of music, drama and dance with performances from our chamber choir, duets, soloists, musicians, drama performances and readings.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a pantomime and this year, Year 7 and 8 students had an opportunity to see Cinderella at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool. The students really enjoyed the traditional performance but were wowed by the 3D effects in the second half!
Our green astro turf turned red at lunchtime in the last week of term as students, and staff, took part in Weatherhead’s very own Santa Dash to raise money for charity. Participants were invited run 1 lap, 2 laps or 5 laps around the astro pitch and each student received a time for their event and a certificate. Staying on the theme of sports, students participated in a netball tournament with a friendly interform netball competition in the last week of term.
Weatherhead’s Got Talent, always a highlight of the school calendar, took place in the last week of term to a packed theatre of students. There were singers, dancers and musicians. A huge thank you to all the performers and congratulations to the winners.
Each year, our Year 7 students collect, wrap and deliver Christmas gifts for residents in local care homes. This year, we went one bigger and invited every form from Years 7-10 to take part. Each form was assigned a resident and as a class they collected, made, purchased, wrapped, decorated and personalised a gift. Gifts were delivered to the residents of Victoria House and Mariners Court Care Homes by students representing each year group and our chamber choir performed Christmas carols as the gifts were handed out.
On the last day of term, there was a prize draw for students with 100% attendance. There were six lucky winners in total who each received a gift box of goodies.
