25 August 2022 | School News

Weatherhead High School is very pleased to announce some excellent achievements by its students this year in their GCSEs and BTECs, despite the significant disruption to their education over the last 2 years with the global pandemic.

Every single student should be so proud of what they have achieved today and how well they have coped in these unprecedented times and their determination and resilience throughout these difficult times has been remarkable.

Alicia Evans, Sadiah Begum, Jenny Ryan and Emma Sheppard achieved a remarkable 32 grade 9s between them and they are all returning to Weatherhead Sixth Form to study a combination of A Levels including Maths, Further Maths, Music, Chemistry, Physics, French, DT and Psychology.

Alicia Evans achieved an incredible 11 GCSEs grades 9-7 (9 grade 9s, 1 grade 8 and 1 grade 7). As a talented musician, her grade 9 in music is no surprise to those who have had the pleasure to watch Alicia perform. She is also celebrating double success in modern foreign languages achieving a grade 9 in both French and Spanish. Alicia is going to study A Levels in French, Music, Physics and Psychology at  Weatherhead.

Luci Edwards, Khadiza Rahman, Jie Birkby, Zaylie Morgan, Katie Morrissey, Faith Robinson, Lucy Mills and Jen Taft all achieved an impressive 10 GCSE grades 9-7.

Freya Beresford and Annie Scott’s ambition to work in the performing arts industry is now going to be a reality after they have successfully secured places at LIPA. Both students are celebrating today after securing the top grades in their performing arts subjects. Freya achieved 2 grade 9s in Drama and Music and Annie achieved a grade 9 in Dance and a grade 8 in Drama.

An impressive 524 top grades of grade 9-7/Distinction*-Distinction/A*-A were achieved by students, with 134 of those grades being a grade 9/Distinction*/A*. The school is also delighted that 78% of all grades awarded are at grade 4/pass/C or higher, which reflects the hard work and dedication of our students.

Headteacher, Miss Whelan commented:

“I am absolutely delighted with the achievement of all our students who have worked so well during their GCSE and BTEC courses in what can only be described as the most challenging circumstances ever.  The students have worked hard since starting at Weatherhead 5 years ago to achieve such success, despite a global pandemic which has significantly disrupted their education from the end of Year 9 right through to these examinations. Throughout this time the students have demonstrated immense resilience and maturity and these achievements are a real testament to their continued dedication and commitment to their studies in these unprecedented times. The staff at Weatherhead have continued to work tirelessly to support these students throughout the many challenges faced and deserve a special thank you and the strong bond and partnership we have with all our parents and carers has been integral to the success of all our students. Most students are returning in September to continue their studies in our Sixth Form and I very much look forward to seeing them and I wish all the other students the very best in their new ventures.”

Chair of Governors, Mrs Carol Rogers congratulates all Year 11 students on their deserved success and thanks all the staff for their professionalism, hard work and support over the years and in these unprecedented times.

Weatherhead High School’s curriculum remains inclusive and broad so that all students are given the opportunity to succeed in their individual pathway and the results of all abilities was very impressive this year and some of our top achievers were:
