Weatherhead are World Class Again!

We are delighted to share with you that Weatherhead High School has successfully re-accredited as a World Class School. Our Year 12 team of ‘World Class Ambassadors’ have worked hard over the last 6 months to complete assessment frameworks in a number of areas to prove that they are World Class!

The news was announced on 1st July, when World Class school leaders, staff and students came together virtually for the annual World Class School  symposium. The event offered a range of presentations and interactive sessions from World Class schools and partners, centred around the theme of “World Class futures” including:

• up to the minute careers advice from professional networking platform, LinkedIn and global employer and apprenticeship experts Accenture
• advice and resources from the Life Skills Network on the transition from school to the workplace
• an inspirational presentation from mental health advocate Daniel Wilsher
• an update from the Alumni Association student committee on the benefits of joining
• a session on “what makes a World Class undergraduate” by Trinity College Cambridge
• the launch of the 2021 essay competition

A celebration of World Class students…

The Symposium featured an Awards Ceremony celebrating World Class achievements of students from schools across the country. Following a very difficult school year, over 200 World Class schools streamed the ceremony live into classrooms to celebrate the inspirational achievements of students, who overcame obstacles presented by Lockdown and COVID 19.

Weatherhead Awards Ceremony Highlights:

• one of only 9 schools to re-accredit who have proved that they are World Class over a period of 3 years and achieved reaccreditation during the challenging circumstances of a pandemic.
• Year 12 student, Polly was recognised as a qualifying student assessor, helping other schools to become World Class.
• many of our Year 12 team were shortlisted for ‘the Student of the Year Character Awards’ including Claire and Miki (Learners), Jess (Leaders), Izzy, Libby and Tyler (Commitment to Achievement), Sanjita (Knowledge & Understanding) and Aimee (Community).
• Polly and Emma were named runners-up in their areas of Workplace and Knowledge & Understanding and were named Character Role Models in the online video gallery.

The challenges of the last few months have proved that the World Class skills and competencies of our students, the recognition of which is the point of our organisation, are what really matter. World Class students have the skills and competencies not only to survive in times of trial, but to flourish. We are celebrating our confidence in the fact that our World Class students will win at life, no matter what.”
