Well Done Class of 2020 – Truly World Class!

20 August 2020 | School News

Weatherhead students have done exceptionally well in their GCSEs this year despite not being able to sit their exams due to Covid-19, with 83% of grades awarded being at least grade 4 or grade C, and we are still awaiting our BTEC results. Every student should be extremely proud of what they have achieved today and how well they have coped in these unusual and unprecedented times.

These results are a true reflection of all the hard work the students have put into their studies over the last 5 years and especially in the last 2 years.  A significant proportion of students secured outstanding success in achieving the highest grades 9-7.  In all, 510 grades were achieved at this level with 43 grade 9s secured in English. This is truly wonderful and a well deserved achievement from our high ability students.

88% of students in English and 70% of students in Mathematics achieved grade 4 or above, and 50% of students achieved a grade 5 or higher in English and Maths.

The results awarded in languages, with our biggest cohort entry, are excellent with 88% of grades in Spanish and 94% in French awarded at 9-4.

We are still awaiting confirmation of the BTEC results following the late announcement yesterday afternoon instructing schools not to issue BTEC grades and we look forward to sharing lots of success in these subjects.

Weatherhead High School’s curriculum remains inclusive and broad so that all students are given the opportunity to succeed in their individual pathway and the results of all abilities were very impressive this year. Some of our top achievers were:

Headteacher, Miss Whelan commented:

“I am absolutely delighted with the achievement of all our students who have worked extremely well during their courses. The students have worked so hard since starting at Weatherhead 5 years ago to achieve such success in their subjects and the staff at Weatherhead continue to work tirelessly to support them and deserve a special thank you. I am so proud of how the students have shown tremendous resilience over the last 6 months and how well they coped with such an abrupt end to their year in the most unprecedented circumstances. Although there are still some students waiting for their results in their BTEC qualifications, every single one of our students can hold their heads high knowing that they have handled a global pandemic in such an incredibly impressive way, and these results and those still to come for some, are and will be a true reflection of their hard work and ability and will open many doors for each and every one of them. I am really looking forward to seeing most students return in September to continue their studies in our Sixth Form.”

Chair of Governors, Mrs Carol Rogers congratulates all students on their deserved success and also thanks staff for all their commitment, hard work and complete professionalism in these unprecedented circumstances. She continued to praise the school for how well they have handled all the late exam grade changes, last minute decisions by exam boards and complete turmoil in the whole system over the past few weeks.
