Physical Education KS3
Students undertake a broad and balanced programme of Physical Education at Key Stage 3, which lays the foundation for further development of skills and interest in sport and physical recreation. Students acquire and develop skills in many sports and apply these skills appropriately. The activity areas include Netball, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders, Badminton, Tennis, Trampolining, Football and Hockey.
In addition to this, students experience a varied Outdoor Education programme. They improve their problem solving skills, team building qualities, communication and confidence by completing tasks such as orienteering and team challenges that are completed on the newly built assault course.
Students develop their knowledge and understanding of health and fitness by designing and carrying out their own warm-ups and cool-downs and identifying the fitness components that are important for each activity area. In Year 9, students construct their own personal exercise plan which is completed over a 9 week training programme in the onsite Fitness Suite.
The ability to observe and comment on others’ performances is also crucial and at Key Stage 3 students start to examine the work of others and highlight strengths and weaknesses.
