On 9th March we were delighted to welcome 28 students from Belfast Model School for Girls, as part of their Sports Tour to Liverpool. Belfast Girls were also joined by a familiar face, their Principal and former Weatherhead Deputy Headteacher, Mr Wright.

The sports tour line-up was a packed day of netball, football and leadership skills.

The first fixture was a Year 9 netball match. The Weatherhead squad took an early lead and kept ahead throughout the game, with a final score of 8-6. During the Year 8 fixture, the Weatherhead team took a few minutes to settle in and were drawing 0-0 at quarter time. After some tactical positional changes, the squad stormed ahead and finished the game with an impressive 11-0 win!

Four teams competed in the football tournament; two teams from Belfast and a Year 9 and Year 10 Weatherhead squad. The standard of football was outstanding from both schools and all matches ended in close wins for Weatherhead.

The Belfast squads finished 3rd and 4th with Weatherhead’s Year 10 squad finishing in 2nd place – and suffering only one loss throughout the tournament! The Year 9 Weatherhead team were unbeaten and therefore overall winners of the tournament.

After lunch, Sports Leaders from Belfast joined our 6th form Sports Council and CSLA Leaders to share leadership game ideas and lead a class of Year 8 students.

At the end of the day there was a presentation of certificates before we had to say goodbye to our new friends.

The atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic and all students worked hard and enjoyed themselves. The success of the day can only be as a result of the enthusiasm and effort put into the tour by all the students involved.

We’re already looking forward to the return visit!
