Senior Awards Evening on 19th October 2017 celebrated the success of our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students.

Over 200 prizes were awarded across  all curriculum areas for endeavour across the curriculum, academic achievement, leadership and attendance. There were also prizes for Media Arts, Service to the Community and Service to the School.

On arrival guests were welcomed with a musical performance on the trumpet by Year 13 A level Music student, Becky Barrow, accompanied by Mr Watson on the piano.

Chair of Governors, Jane Owens MBE and Headteacher Miss Whelan opened the evening welcoming guests and congratulating all of the award winners. Head Girl, Chloe Hunt, introduced the first performance of the evening from The Weatherhead Dance Company performed to ‘Say You Love Me’ by Jessie Ware.

We were delighted to welcome to Weatherhead, Nicola Palios, as guest speaker. Nicola is Vice Chairman of Tranmere Rovers Football Club and on the board of directors of British Rowing. Following the awarding of prizes to over 150 students, Nicola Palios delivered an inspiring speech referring to her career as a cox for Great Britain and Oxford to becoming a Barrister in Jersey.  Nicola has had a varied career and it was reassuring to students to hear her talk about learning from mistakes and a career path that was far from ordinary.

Deputy Head Boy, Scott Henderson and Deputy Head Girl, Abisaliny Arunprakash delivered a vote of thanks to Nicola Palios and presented her with a beautiful piece of artwork produced by one of our A level students which over the summer had been on exhibition in the Mall Gallery in London, as part of the prestigious National Students’ Art Exhibition.

Year 13 Music student Marco Cavaluzzi performed Prelude in C minor by Chopin a piece he performed recently at the Southport Music Festival  where he won the Pianoforte Solo.

Gabrielle Griffiths closed the evening with a  reading of ‘Start Where You Stand’ by Berton Braley. Read it here https://allpoetry.com/Start-where-you-stand

Congratulations to all of our award winners and thank you to all of our parents, carers and friends of Weatherhead for supporting our students in all that they do.
