The Under 13s bowed out of this year’s Cup campaign with great grace, after suffering a heart-wrenching defeat in the final minute of their Round 6 away game against Chesterfield High School.

It was the tightest of games, with Weatherhead opening the scoring early in the first half only to be matched by Chesterfield very soon after. The score remained 1-1 at half time with both teams as hungry as the other for the win.

A change of ends and conditions saw Weatherhead face a fierce headwind in the second half when it was Chesterfield’s turn to open up the scoresheet.

Weatherhead had to fight hard in all areas of the pitch, with several gravity-defying saves from Naylor and a cracking outside shot from McCready, showcasing their finest team effort of the season to even the score at 2-2.

They threw everything they had at the home team and held their own superbly, until a last gasp attempt from Chesterfield saw them find the back of the net to edge the win in the final minute of the game. Heart-breaking for Weatherhead ending an impressive run of quality wins, from which has emerged a formidable squad, combining players old and new, to reach the final 16 of the National Cup.

Definitely one to look out for next season!
